Parisians are waking up to some great news as the first new flight to and from Cork Airport has been launched.
This morning Vueling ran its first ride on the new route between the best city in the world and the French capital – and from here on it will run twice a week.
The news was announced last September, and today saw the plan go into effect as it was finally launched in the first week of the airport after it reopened.
Cork Airport’s managing director, Niall McCarthy, said they were « delighted » with the news that rebel flyers were communicating with the French city’s Orly airport (which is their most centrally located airport).
The Spanish low-cost airline announced it as part of the winter schedule, and will fly on Monday and Friday.
McCarthy said: “We are delighted to welcome a brand new airline, Vueling, the Spanish low-cost carrier and part of the IAG group to Cork as our newest scheduled airline.
“The new service will operate twice a week to Paris Orly, the airport closest to central Paris, on Mondays and Fridays.
« This news is exciting for business and tourism on both ends of the road and will further drive the growth of inbound tourism from this key continental market to counties across southern Ireland. »
Last Monday saw Cork’s first commercial flight take off after a 10-week closure of the Jazz Up runway.
On Monday morning, at 7.45am, the first passenger plane took off from the airport since early September and took people to Heathrow.
Today will see eleven flights arrive, including the Vueling flight launched today.
