HIQA has highlighted a number of non-compliance cases in two nursing homes in Donegal.
The issues were published today by HIQA following inspections at the Harbor Lights nursing home, Bruckless, and one at Aras Ghaoth Dobhair, Derrybeg.
HIQA has also conducted recent inspections of Archview Lodge Seniors Home, Letterkenny, Beach Hill Manor Seniors, Lisfannon and St Eunan Seniors, Ramelton Road and Letterkenny which were found to be ‘essentially compatible’ or ‘somewhat compatible’ old ».
Regarding Aras Goth Dubbah, the Higher Education Quality Authority said: “The inspector found that comprehensive care was person-centered. However, some routines and practices need to be reviewed to ensure that those residents with dementia receive care and support in line with their needs and preferences for care and daily routine.”
Inspectors at Harbor Lights Home for the Aged found that residents received care and services from an established staff who knew them well.
« However, significant improvements were needed to ensure that every resident’s rights to privacy and dignity are respected and that care is person-centered, » the report said.
Among the issues raised in the report was the staffing shortage which resulted in few activities for the residents.
